After a 3-0 sweep on Friday, we are finally waiting all day for Sunday night. I hope to see Jordan Love recover quickly and come back stronger than ever. As for the Eagles, Jalen Hurts really needs to work on his decision making, but Saquon Barkley looks like he has serious RB1 potential this year. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season plays out for both of these teams. After the first two games of this year we have a 4-3 record and we are up 0.57 units. Here are the picks for Sunday Night Football.
Sunday Night Football Week 1: Los Angeles Rams @ Detroit Lions (-4.5) O/U 52
Rams +4.5 (-110)
I have Detroit winning this game, but I think 4.5 is too many points. In the two games these teams have matched up in since the Goff and Stafford trade, LA has won one outright and covered this spread in the other. Both teams have very promising defenses and explosive play makers. This game also brings us a stellar coaching matchup. Both Sean McVay and Dan Campbell are fantastic football minds, however Campbell takes too many big risks for my taste. The Lions are a well-structured team, but not 4.5 points better than a fully healthy Stafford and company. I can see this one falling right on that 3 or 4 point win margin.
Matthew Stafford Over 23.5 Pass Completions (-125)
Stafford’s top two weapons happen to be very efficient pass catchers. As we know Puka Nacua broke the rookie record for catches with 105 last year and Cooper Kupp is not far removed from that Triple Crown season where he led the league in yards, catches, and touchdowns. McVay and the Rams may also look to test rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold in the pass game. Whether the Rams want to start aggressive early or if they find themselves trailing near the end of the game, I predict the Rams will throw it enough for the great arm of Stafford to find 24 completions.
Amon-Ra St. Brown Over 83.5 Receiving Yards (-115)
The Lions have an array of ways to beat you. Two running backs who are exceptional at different things and a young star tight end who is a touchdown machine gave so many defenses headaches. That being said, I do not love their top-to-bottom receiving core. Jameson Williams is a nice deep threat, but has not been used in other ways and Kalif Raymond is not the greatest WR3 for a team who has Super Bowl aspirations. Amon-Ra St. Brown, however, lifts this receiver group into the elite category. He is good at so many things and he still carriesthat chip on his shoulder from his draft night. You can see his drive to win and be great. I am not sure if the Rams are going to have an answer for number 14.
